Each age-group's fine and gross motor skills are given the opportunities through games, colors, numbers, and dancing. In addition, the children 19 months and up have an age-appropriate, open-ended art or science project every week.
Although this is not a music class, we use songs, rhythm, and repetition for their essential support in language acquisition. Many songs will be familiar and consistently repeated in a style that is both engaging and uniquely patterned for word and sentence building.
All classes have a relaxed structure where each child participates at his or her own level of interest. Although the structure is always presented it is never enforced. This allows for the wide array of personalities and developmental stages to flourish.
The outstanding success of Free to Be Under Three is based on the instructor's enthusiasm, gentleness and joy in enriching the development of a child's first three years.
Trust and confidence are fostered and nurtured in a warm and inclusive environment. A keen awareness is always paid to the changing developmental needs of each child.

Trust and confidence are fostered and nurtured in a warm and inclusive environment. A keen awareness is always paid to the changing developmental needs of each child.
Classes are designed around small incremental age groups. This method allows for each specific developmental stage to be nurtured most effectively. Children's ages are calculated from the first day of classes each semester. All classes are with an accompanying adult.

These classes are 45 minutes long and focus on language acquisition. Each class begins with about 10 minutes of free play, with beach balls for the young children while live soft music plays.
Sound repetition, word deconstruction, and delightful language plays are the core of the baby classes. Our instructors use character puppets, animal puppets, large color photos, and simple songs as well as color and number props to engage recognition.
As they begin to crawl and walk we begin moving faster through their beloved routines. A key to infant learning is repetition, repetition, repetition. This also contributes to your child's confidence, emerging sense of self, trust and comfort in their environment.
Once your child is 19 months or older at the beginning of a term, he or she moves into an hour-long structure. Many adults have commented that this environment is like "pre-preschool."
These classes focus on language use, confidence building, and offer socialization opportunities for the children who are ready. In addition to the first fifteen minutes of table play with language-rich manipulative toys, instructors add more games, songs, emotion-defining activities, an open-ended creative project*, a story time and bubble-popping.
*Open-ended creative project: the children do not make a symbolic object, but simply enjoy experimenting with the medium.
If your child is 26 months to 32 months and you have participated in the hour long structure at least one term, you can place your child in what is called Project Managers. It lasts for up to an hour and fifteen minutes and consists of one or two more involved open-ended creative projects per class, along with many of the favorite elements from our classes.
Project Manager classes engage the children's motor skills, emotional understanding, socialization, imagination, and language in a way that gives the children even more responsibility than before. We also offer the adults suggestions in the most effective ways to speak to their children about their art and creative work.

A term costs between $625 and $825, depending on the age of the child and the duration of the term.
Participation is on a first come, first served basis. Our high quality program strictly enforces class size to no more than 13 enrolled children at any time. Age groups are designed to support the most effective learning environment. This standard of excellence has made us one of the most popular programs in New York City. We are so grateful to all who participate and continue to let others know of their great experience at Free to Be Under Three.
There is usually a wait of 6 months to a year to be offered a spot. We want to get you in as soon as possible so don't hesitate to call 212-988-1708 to begin the registration process.
We love what we do and we look forward to having you in our classes. Thank you so much for your interest.
